News Hub Publication Guidelines

What is the News Hub

The TYPO3 News & Events Hub is the primary source of news, product updates and information relating to the TYPO3 community. Its subject matter consists of a wide range of topics, related to all facets of the TYPO3 project, from both the TYPO3 Company and Association.

The mission of the News Hub is to provide up-to-date information on all relevant topics pertaining to the project, while delivering our audience useful learning resources and best practices, marketing-related content and information related to major events, and personal stories/opinion pieces.

Target Audiences

We have a range of primary and secondary audiences who we seek to inform through the News Hub’s content.

  • Primary audiences: TYPO3 community members and contributors, representatives of partner agencies, employees at companies that use TYPO3
  • Secondary audiences: Open source community at large, individuals learning about open source content management systems

TYPO3 Company News vs. Association/Community News

While the NewsHub publishes a wide variety of content, pertaining to both commercial uses and applications of TYPO3, along with community news and updates, there are different processes for having either kind publihsed.

If you're looking to publish an article that relates to the wider TYPO3 project, community initiatives, and the association, there are already guidelines in place for that type of content.

News Hub vs. Documentation

The News Hub does not publish content that is meant to be a substitute for the official TYPO3 Documentation. Both types of content have different goals, and while News Hub content can cover best practices, it’s meant to complement official documentation and provide additional insights.

  • TYPO3 Documentation: Getting started guide, editors guides, tutorials, and references
  • News Hub Content: Useful insights for using TYPO3, publishing product updates, guest posts covering how to use specific features

News Hub vs. Case Studies

The typo3.com website maintains a robust and continuously growing collection of case studies, documenting some of the finest examples of end users collaborating with TYPO3 Partners to deliver impressive results. The content is promotional in nature, and aims to showcase partner expertise, along with the robust feature set and wide ranging capabilities TYPO3 can deliver.

News Hub content doesn’t seek to promote individual partners. It aims to deliver value through informative content for a commercial audience that provides insights into how to best use specific features, extensions, or how to best make use of product updates in a purely informative manner.

Success Metrics

There are several key success metrics that we aim to achieve through publishing content on the News Hub. These include the following:

  • Visibility: Driving organic traffic and establishing the News Hub, and TYPO3 website as the primary sources of truth for TYPO3-related content
  • Engagement: Achieving high rates of time on page and re-sharing of content
  • Awareness: Ensuring that the entire TYPO3 community is aware of the most important news related to the project.
    • Part of raising awareness is our promotion of TYPO3 Pulse, with several CTA’s across different sections of the News Hub

Tone of Voice

What we Are

Our tone of voice on the News Hub should be a combination of confident, approachable, and supporting. We seek to inform and to guide. We are helpful, respectful, and excited about the TYPO3 project.

What we Are Not

We don’t use a condescending tone, we aren’t overly formal, dismissive of other projects, or arrogant when it comes to our success. We avoid overly salesy language or being excessively promotional.

Writing Style

Some key tenets when it comes to drafting content for the News Hub include:

  • Avoid overly long sentences and jargon. We aim to be concise and direct in our communication.
  • Cap paragraphs at 2-3 sentences. We avoid long paragraphs and blocks of text. Readability is important.
  • An active voice is always preferred.
    • ✅ Active voice: “We launched our newest TYPO3 version.”
    • ❌ Passive voice: “The newest version of TYPO3 was launched by the team.”
  • We have an international audience, and English is often not their first language. As such, avoid overly complicated language when possible. We want to be descriptive, but we also want to be inclusive and understandable.

Content Categories

Content published on the News Hub falls into one of the following core categories. These categories serve as tags for content, and allow us to organize content in a structured manner, making it easier to access for readers.

Core Categories

  • The Project: Content related to the TYPO3 project
  • Best Practices & Learning: Useful guides and best practices to make the most of your TYPO3 experience.
  • Product Updates & Roadmap: Important updates related to new releases, update cycles, and roadmaps for future releases.
  • Developer & Technology: Tech content covering the inner-workings of TYPO3, including new features, sprints, and more.
  • Showcase & Success: Features of instances where TYPO3 delivered impressive results, but informative in nature.
  • Market & Sell: Marketing best practices and useful information for qualifying TYPO3 as a service provider.
  • Personal Stories & Opinions: Opinion pieces and personal knowledge sharing from members of the community.

What Belongs in Other TYPO3 Websites

The News Hub is a platform where content reflects current trends and developments in the aforementioned categories. News Hub content isn’t meant to offer an in-depth analysis of a specific industry vertical, use case, or feature as a stand-alone landing page would. Instead, it serves as a repository for news related to the TYPO3 and open source ecosystems. Types of content that can’t be found or shouldn’t be covered on the News Hub include the following:

Content Structure

Use of Headings and Subheadings

When beginning an article or a new section of an article, it’s important to use a Heading 1. This allows for a cleaner structure and also serves SEO purposes. When wanting to create a sub-section, Heading 2 should be used.

✅ Proper Use:

Our Agenda for Developer Days 2026 ← Heading 1

Day 1 Program ← Heading 2

((Body text)) ← Normal text

Use of Acronyms and Abbreviations

We often use acronyms and abbreviations in text, and it’s generally encouraged to do so as it simplifies content, making it easier to read and understand. The correct introduction for acronyms is to spell out the entire name once with its abbreviated version in parentheses next to it, and subsequently use only the abbreviation in the rest of the piece. For example, the TYPO3 Conference becomes “T3CON”, etc.

Quoting and Referring to External Sources

When using quotes, there are two main procedures

  • Quotes in the body text with simple quotation marks: Refer to the individual being quoted before the quotation, or immediately after it.
  • Using the quote button in a content element for a quote block: The quoted individual should appear right underneath the quotation.

Calls to Action (CTA) and Linking

Purpose of CTAs in the News Hub

Calls to action (orange button) should be used only at the bottom of articles for the purpose of an activation. These can be towards external sites (ex. for purchasing event tickets), solutions pages (to promote a TYPO3 solution), or to contact our team (ex. Partner management).

CTA Hierarchy

When applying CTA’s, it’s important to only use the orange CTA for the main activation the post seeks to generate. Other types of links, in the body of articles should be either linked texts, or Chevron links.

Chevron Links

Chevron links are used in the body of articles, aimed to promote a specific topic or solution related to the paragraph they’re in. For example, when writing about TYPO3’s multisite capabilities, a link to the Multisite & Multilingual landing page can come either as linked text, or as a chevron link at the bottom of the paragraph.

Linking Frequency Recommendations

Within a paragraph, it’s recommended that authors don’t use more than 2 links. This is to make readability easier, and also to not overwhelm the reader with multiple options that direct to external pages.

When drafting an article, consider what kinds of activations are important for the topic (if any), and which external sites or other TYPO3 pages should be linked.

Review and Publication

Who Can Publish

Publication on the News Hub is restricted to TYPO3 editorial team members, whereas authorship may extend from the TYPO3 Company team to Association members, guest authors, and representatives of TYPO3 Partner Agencies. Content is selected for publication based on internal team priorities and key messaging themes.

Publishing as a TYPO3 Partner

TYPO3 Partners are integral contributors to our community and we look forward to their submissions for guest articles on the News Hub. For Partners interested in publishing, please refer to the Partner Guest Blog Guidelines, along with these guidelines for a comprehensive overview of how to draft an article.

Partner Guest Blog Guidelines

Editorial Review Steps

Posts from partners should follow the following process:

  1. The draft is submitted to the TYPO3 Company Communications Team for review and copy edit.
  2. The Communications team ensures that the article meets TYPO3 standards and is free of grammatical errors.
  3. The piece is incorporated into the existing content calendar and created in English in the backend. Where considered valuable for the respective target audience, it may also be translated into German, French, and Dutch by the relevant contributors, subject to the languages available at the time of publication by the Communications team.
  4. Publication and sharing on social media by the Communications team.

Maintenance of Older Content

Oftentimes, older content remains highly relevant and requires periodic updates. In cases like this, there should be someone assigned to provide updated information and update the existing content in the article. It’s essential to add a line of text to the article noting that the piece has been recently updated, so that readers will know that the content is still reliable and relevant.
